BAD experience. Had been having trouble with my car/the engine hadn't been starting, brought it to Riverside for an inspection. They called and told me they were getting an error message related to the key and the key needed to be replaced in order for the car to start. I had a DIFFERENT contractor come out to replace the key. The key was in very bad shape/in pieces and that's not Riverside's fault. THEN, once my key was replaced, the car started just fine but Craig, the representative at the front, took my new key and insisted on moving forward with the inspection. He explained before that the issue related to the key was found from a diagnostic review but when I asked about what was actually found in the entire inspection he wouldn't give me any straight answer. Basically, they hadn't done any inspection whatsoever, nor looked at the car at all aside from using their scanner, probably for 5 minutes, to tell me I needed to call someone else and get a new key. When I asked about any inspection findings he just dodged the question and was really vague and wouldn't tell me anything that was found (because they hadn't actually done any inspection yet). Craig was rude and insensitive, saying 'I owed him money' and 'he had other customers he needed to take care of' told me I was 'overcomplicating things' etc. Look, I get it, my car was there overnight and you did a diagnostic review with your scanner etc. I get wanting to be compensated for something, but he charged me for the full inspection BEFORE they even did any ACTUAL inspection. It would have been much more appropriate to charge some kind of custom amount for them having to take 10 minutes to use their scanner and figure out that I needed a new key and for the fact that my car had stayed on their property for 24+ hours rather than charging me for an inspection I now didn't need and that they hadn't even done yet. I have NEVER had to pay for an inspection before it was actually done at any auto repair business. Again, when I asked him about any inspection findings he just dodged the question and was really vague and wouldn't tell me anything that was found (again because they hadn't actually done any inspection yet). Basically I was pressured into paying $170 something dollars to start a service they DIDN'T do yet when they could have let me go knowing that my car started now since it had a new key. I don't think Richard (the actual owner) would have pushed a service on me if he knew I was good to go. THEN later there were hardly any details in the actual inspection when it was done, I don't even know if they even did an inspection! I wouldn't be surprised if he just talked with Richard over the phone about problems the car had in the past and slapped that on a piece of paper. The 'inspection' didn't even show a quote for the cost of recommended repairs, I had to ask for that which he reluctantly wrote down on the paper for one repair and just gave me ball park estimates for the other recommended repair (thus didn't get a solid quote on pricing for everything). Told me the car was dangerous and would cost thousands upon thousands to fix given the bounciness of it and some other problems. It's had the bouncy 'issue' ever since I bought it about 8 years ago and doesn't bother me. When I mentioned having talked with Richard about it being bouncy before and how Richard said that wasn't dangerous, Craig said that he thought it was dangerous in his opinion. Fine, everyone gets to have an opinion, that's fine. I trust Richard. This industry is so bad about being trustworthy that it goes to show you can have one great guy who you trust, who even owns the place (Richard), and still have untrustworthy people working under them. The only reason this review is 4 stars is because of Richard and how he's a great, reliable, and trustworthy guy who really knows what he's doing.
